Lymphatic Drainage Manual Therapy

Lymphatic drainage manual therapy is a specialized body work technique that is provided by advanced trained licensed and certified health care practitioners such as nurses, massage therapists, and acupuncturists. This therapy applies repetitive pressure at lymph node sites and a stroking technique along lymph vessels that stimulates the movement of lymph fluid. This therapy assists with post surgical swelling and inflammation due to numerous heath complaints such as sinusitis, arthritis, gastritis, back pain, neck pain and more.

Nurses Throughout Time

Nurses have provided comfort to their patients for many years. In doing so, they have aided their patients with many forms of bodywork therapies. Bodywork including specialized massage has been a part of nursing history with its beginning in Florence Nightingale's first nursing school.  Bodywork is still within the nurse's scope of practice but has been taught less and less over time. Now with the advent of alternative medicine, nursing bodywork is making a resurgence.

Massage Therapists, Chiropractors, Naturopaths, Physical Therapists, and Acupuncturists

LIcensed professionals can add this new technique to their skills whereby offering expanded care to their clients.

Lymphatic Therapy Class

Lymphatic Drainage Certification

Lymphatic drainage manual therapy is a gentle technique that works through the body's lymphatic system to activate the body fluid circulation and stimulate the functioning of the immune and parasympathetic nervous systems. The benefits include reductions in edemas, detoxification of the body, regeneration of tissue as well as many other benefits.

Using exacting anatomical science and distinctive manual processes, Lymphatic drainage massage enables practitioners to detect the specific rhythm, direction, depth and quality of the lymph flow anywhere in the body. The practitioner will use their hands to perform work on the vessels to assess overall circulation and determine the best alternate pathways for draining body-fluid stagnations.

Therapists work with flat hands, using all the fingers to simulate gentle, specific wave-like movements. These subtle manual maneuvers activate lymph and interstitial fluid circulation as well as stimulate the functioning of the immune and parasympathetic nervous systems. It is shown that when these actions are accomplished, the results can be:
  • Reduction in edemas (swelling) and lymphedemas of various origins
  • Detoxification of the body
  • Regeneration of tissue, including burns, wounds and wrinkles
  • Anti-aging effects
  • Relief of numerous chronic and subacute inflammations, including sinusitis, bronchitis and otitis
  • Relief of chronic pain

Create another stream of income by networking with Medi spas, Oncology clinics and Physical rehab clinics who are now hiring therapist for Lymphatic Drainage.

The Demand for Holistic Health Careers and Practitioners

The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine recently reported that approximately 38 percent of adults in the United States are using some form of complementary or alternative medicine (CAM). This includes the following types of treatment modalities:
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics' 2014-15 Occupational Outlook Handbook, the holistic health, alternative medicine and wellness industry has increased substantially since 2002, and all signs point to continued growth in the popularity of CAM through 2022.

A large number of people are willing to pay for this kind of health care, since CAM is usually not paid by health insurance. This growing demand makes it an excellent time to begin a career as a holistic health practitioner. See our Holistic Health Care Certification Program below.
