Description of Method

Holistic Colon Irrigation

The Washington Institute of Natural Medicine (WINM) offers training in the true and original form of colon hydrotherapy that dates back to the Egyptian time period. It is a form of lower bowel cleansing. Also, know as colon irrigation, or sigmoid colon irrigation.

The sigmoid is the lower part of the bowel where the majority of the waste accumulates, becomes dense and at time impacted. This is the primary location of focus within a session, where hydration needs to occur.

Holistic Colon Irrigation is one of the oldest known health procedures. Colon therapy is the beginning step in a process of detoxifying the body of food additives, preservatives, bacteria and viruses, all of which diminish the body’s ability to function.

With Holistic Colon Irrigation, a client's sense of well being is often dramatically improved. They will feel lighter and more energetic.

The many positive results are:

  • The body can again take more nourishment from food and better defend itself against disease.
  • Improved Natural peristalsis, tone, and regularity are restored, and many serious diseases may be averted through this gentle, gravity fed method
  • Skin condition is improved
  • Less body odor and bad breath
  • Less belly distension
  • Weight loss

If a client does not have a bowel movement from two to three times per day, then it is important to stimulate the system. Colon cleansing practitioners believe that a client should have one bowel movement for each meal they eat.

The importance of keeping our body clean inside, as well as out cannot be over emphasized. It will be difficult to secure good health when your system is sluggish. Your bodies systems can not be flushed out appropriately, if the main drain (your colon) is sluggish or plugged up. With unhealthy colons, there can be encrusted fecal matter and worms, as well as impaction.

Colon Irrigation will not only tell you if you have parasites but will also help to remove them. Some symptoms of parasites can include restless sleeping, fatigue, poor assimilation and absorption of nutrients, food cravings (especially for sugars and breads), as well as an inability to feel satisfied after a large meal.

Colon Irrigation will also help improve the beneficial bacteria in your bowel. Even though some good and bad bacteria will be washed out during the session, it is much easier for the body to reproduce beneficial bacteria after a session, when bad bacteria and waste have been reduced.

The Institute’s practitioners and teachers use a gentle but effective open, gravity fed method, rather than the machine operated pressurized systems. Our staff feels it is a safer, effective, and more comfortable procedure. It does not expose the client to incompatible electrical fields or water pressure that may be too forceful for some clients. The practitioner controls the maximum amount of water that is introduced into the colon, thereby preventing electrolyte or pH imbalances that can occur with other methods, that do not regulate water quantity.

The Institute has successfully treated clients with constipation, parasites, and sluggish digestion. The Institute’s colon hydrotherapists and nursing staff are happy to report that they have received referrals from Naturopathic Doctors, Holistic Practitioners, Medical Doctors, as well as Gastroenterologists, of whom have referred clients in preparation for colonoscopies.

As a part of the procedure the practitioner uses products and supplies just dedicated to each client personally. The practitioners can also recommend products that can help keep your intestinal track running smoothly.

If you have tried it once, you know why so many people love it; the benefits outweigh any concerns that you might have. It is safe and a surprisingly pleasant procedure if done by a well trained practitioner.

Contraindications to colon irrigation include congestive heart failure, intestinal perforation, carcinoma of the rectum, fissures or fistula, severe hemorrhoids, abdominal hernia, renal insufficiency, recent colon or rectal surgery, cirrhosis of the liver, and first and last trimester of pregnancy.
